Gun Violence Emergency Protective Order (form EPO-002)

• A law enforcement officer has asked that you not be allowed to have, own, buy, receive or use any firearms (guns), firearm parts, ammunition, or magazines.
• If you do not agree to having this restraining order against you, go to court on your hearing date to tell the judge why you do not agree.

📌 If a court date is not listed in item 4, the court will send you the information on form GV-009, at the address listed in item 1. If you don't know when you need to go to court, contact the court right away.

⚠️ If you don’t go to your court hearing, the judge can grant a restraining order against you that can last up to 5 years. 

• A law enforcement officer applied for an emergency protective order against you because they think you are very likely to hurt yourself or someone else if you have, own, buy, receive or use any firearms (guns), firearm parts, ammunition, or magazines.
• The officer wrote information to support their request on form EPO-002 in item 7.

• A judge has made temporary orders against you.
• You must obey the orders.
• If you disagree with this order, you must go to your court hearing to tell the judge why you do not agree. 
• If you have any firearms (guns), firearm parts, ammunition, or magazines, see "Do I need to complete any papers?" below for what you need to do to comply with the judge's orders.

⚠️ If you violate (break) any of the orders you could be arrested, go to jail or be charged with a crime.

You need to turn in a receipt showing that you properly turned in, stored, or sold your firearms (guns), firearm parts, ammunition, and magazines.

• Because there is an emergency protective order against you (see form EPO-002), you must turn in, sell, or store any guns or other firearms, firearm parts, ammunition, or magazines you still have or own.
• If you have any body armor, you must relinquish it. Learn more about how to comply with these orders.

⚠️ If you do not comply, you could be arrested and charged with a state or federal crime.

Tell the court you do not agree to the protective order, in writing (optional)

• If you do not agree to the protective order, you can explain why not. You have the option to do this in writing. Follow the instructions to respond to a gun violence protective order.
